Eco resort in the Alentejo Portugal

Monte Horizonte is a small scale eco resort with 6 vacation houses spread over a property of 50 acres. It is not only green because it is run on solar and wind energy but also because it is located in an ecological reserve and surrounded by nature.

On the 50 acre (20 Ha.) property nearby the historic town of Santiago do Cacém but also close to the wonderful and quiet beaches of the Alentejo region in Portugal there are 6 vacation rentals available with all their own privacy.

The holiday house Casa Camelia is a detached one bedroom house with a king double bed and views to the South. The terrace is completely private.

The vacation cottage Casa Oliveira is a detached one bedroom cottage with two sperate single beds and the terrace is on the south-west to enjoy the evening sun.

The vacation home Casa Mimosa is a detached one bedroom vacation home with a king double bed and views to the south east.

The vacation villa Casa Sobreiro is a detached vacation villa with 2 bedrooms. One bedroom has a king size double bed, the other bedroom 2 single beds. The terrace is facing east to enjoy the morning sun.

The vacation apartments Casa Borboleta and Casa Pássaro are semi detached holiday homes, both have 2 bedrooms. They can be rented together as Monte Horizonte.

All holiday houses are fitted with modern conveniences. The swimming pool of 9,5 by 5,5 meters is for use for guests only and has fantastic views over the surrounding area.

The Alentejo in Portugal is an idyllic tourism region for those seeking sun, sea, beach, relaxation, nature and local culture. It is also a year-round destination for fans of the great outdoors, with cycling, mountain biking, walking, horse riding, bird watching, nordic walking and water sports among the many touristic activities available.

This detached 2 bedroom holiday villa is located on the south-eastern part of our property and has about 2000 m2 of private gardens and woodland. The vacation villa has a living room, two bedrooms, a kitchen with appliances, such as a cooker and refrigerator. The bathroom has a toilet, washbasin, bidet and shower.

There is a t.v. with satellite, which div. foreign stations and BVN (dutch station) receives. Furthermore, in the living room a dining table with chairs, coffee table and a sofa bed (suitable for 2 people).

In 1 bedroom is a double bed and in the other bedroom 2 single beds with linen. Also a cot is available if necessary. Bed linen is changed once a week, towels twice a week.

The holiday villa has a portfolio available, containing various brochures for local attractions in the Alentejo Region of Portugal.

Electricity is provided by solar and wind energy.

The holiday apartment comprises a living room, 2 bedrooms, an open kitchen with ie gas-stove and refergerator.

The bathroom has a shower, WC and wash-stand.

There is a TV set in with several foreign senders like CNN etc.

In the living room is a wood stove, sofas and dining table with chairs.

In one bedroom is a double bed and in the other bedroom are 2 single beds, both bedrooms with bed-linnen. A baby cot is on request available.

Bed linnen will be changed once a week, towels will be changed twice a week.

On the terrace you find chairs and a table where you can enjoy the marvelous views.

In the holiday apartment you will find a documentary map with loads of information about the Alentejo region of Portugal.

The holiday house is located near the end of the path and the furthest away from the pool. The holiday house has plenty of privacy and has a beautiful view of one of our valleys. The holiday house has about 3000 m2 of private woodland and gardens.

This detached

holiday house has a living room with open kitchen. The spacious bedroom has two single beds and a spacious bathroom.

Also a cot is available if necessary. Bed linen is changed once a week and towels twice a week.

There is a t.v. with satellite, which div. foreign stations and BVN (dutch station) receives.

The cottage has a portfolio available, containing various brochures for local attractions.

The covered terrace provides complete privacy in relation to other houses on our land.

The pool is shared for the tenants of our holiday houses.

The large terrace around the pool has also fabulous views.

Cork Harvest

Cork harvest in the Alentejo region of Portugal

Did you ever wonder where the cork in your bottle of wine came from?

Below you will find a video of the cork harvest at Monte Horizonte in the Alentejo region of Portugal.

The Alentejo region is the biggest producer of cork in the world. Cork is nowadays harvested once in 10 years while before it was once in 9 years. The number on the tree indicates the year the last harvest took place.

So, when in the future you open a bottle of wine, please keep in mind that the cork in your hand could be coming from our property.

February in the Alentejo

Winter?

Well, I went outside today (1st of February 2010) to shoot some photos because nature is becoming beautiful again in the Alentejo region of Portugal.

With a temperature of 19 degrees Celcius, you can hear the bees and see the butterflies. This is just an impression of how things look like on the 1st of February 2010 at Monte Horizonte.
